Unlocking the Musical Potential of Oakland: Former Church Set to Host Vibrant Concert Series

In a bid to establish Oakland as a thriving hub for live music, a passionate group named Post Genre is on a mission to breathe life into local music scenes. Comprising musicians, students, and avid concert enthusiasts, Post Genre aims to make local music more accessible by providing a production-ready space equipped with top-notch lighting and audio facilities.

Having successfully hosted live concerts at various Oakland locations such as Flagstaff Hill, Schenley Drive, and a unique five-concert series above Pamela's Diner on Forbes Avenue, Post Genre is gaining momentum. Adam Klenovish, a member of Post Genre and a student at CCAC, notes the transformative impact of presenting favorite bands in a more professional setting. "Better audio, better lighting, it kind of changes everything for the audience and for the musicians as well," he explains.

Now collaborating with the Pittsburgh Innovation District and an Oakland-based real estate company, Post Genre has set its sights on a three-night concert series at a former church on Atwood Street in Oakland. The organizers believe this underutilized space holds immense potential to elevate Oakland as a prominent music hub.

"We're really excited to use this space and bring the community in here and show them that the Oakland music scene is a real thing," expresses Klenovish. With optimism about the future, he adds, "It's essentially just starting, and it's only up from here."

Eli Alfieri from Post Genre reflects on the mystery surrounding the empty church, stating, "I think everyone is kind of wondering why it's empty." The goal of the upcoming three-show series is clear: to prove that this location could be a long-term home for live music, completing the musical landscape of Oakland. Stay tuned as Post Genre aims to turn this former church into a central stage for the vibrant and emerging Oakland music scene.
