The Night Owl
After a tiring, long week at school many students, including me, need a weekend reset. While downtown Pittsburgh is a popular spot for outdoor adventures, it requires time and energy to plan out a trip with friends, so more often you see students creeping out of their dorms and apartments into Oakland's streets.
What I love about Oakland is that you can have both an urban and suburban feel. Schenley Plaza and Phipps have are more open and lined with trees giving a more suburban feel and Forbes and Fifth are lined with busy restaurants, cafe's and stores closer to Pitt's campus. Some streets have been converted to outdoor seating areas because of the pandemic and are surrounded with string lights to give a cozy vibe. Schenley Plaza is a big open area where you'll find lots of people having picnics, playing frisbee, walking their dogs, or just chillin. Walking further that way, you'll reach Phipps conservatory which normally should be seen during the day, but during Christmas they extend their hours to showcase their beautiful light display and winter garden.

Pitt Student
Some of my favorite spots as a student include:
Treat-N-Beans: to get a nice warm waffle with a milk chocolate drizzle(at any time of day - who said waffles are just breakfast foods) Hemingway's Cafe (Hems): which is basically the best college bar here (and also the closest) Schenley Plaza: it's sandwiched between two libraries so sometimes, right before sunset on the weekends, I'll go there to read a book that I've just picked up. It's also an awesome place to just meet up with friends and have a picnic or chill.
